BEST NON-SCIENTIFIC COVER IMAGE

Blue Ice - This image is the first-prize winner of the non-scientific section of The EMBO Journal Cover Contest 2011. The photographer, Dieter Lampl, writes “Perito Moreno in Los Glaciares National Park, Patagonia, is one of the few glaciers in the world which is not shrinking but growing - a living phenomenon impressively demonstrated by the mighty cracking sounds from mid-afternoon onwards.”

Dr. Dieter C. Lampl’s alter ego is a passionate nature, wildlife, spiritual and travel photographer, and he says he sleeps best in his tent "somewhere out there". Feel welcome to see more of his photographs at www.dclphotography.com.
